This page explains where the ratings on Horse Racing Betting Apps come from, what we check on every bookmaker page, and how the site makes money. We want you to be able to check everything we say for yourself.
The ratings we show
Every app page shows two ratings: the app’s score on the Apple App Store (iPhone) and on Google Play (Android). These are the average scores given by the app’s real users. We don’t make up our own star ratings, and we don’t adjust the scores.
- Each rating shows the number of ratings or reviews behind it, so you can see how much weight to give it. A 4.7 from 50,000 people means more than a 4.7 from 50.
- Each rating links to its source, so you can check the current score.
- Each page shows the date the ratings were last checked.
- If a bookmaker has no app, we say “No app” rather than show a rating.
How often we check
We recheck the iPhone and Android ratings for every app at the start of each month and update the pages, the comparison tables and the homepage. Scores can still change between checks, which is why every rating links to its source.
What we check on every bookmaker page
Ratings tell you how people feel about an app, but racing punters need more than that. On every bookmaker page we also check:
- Racing features: Best Odds Guaranteed, live racing streams, each-way terms and extra places, cash out, and pool bets such as the placepot.
- Racing bonuses: for example Lucky 15 consolations and bonuses.
- Payments: deposit methods and typical withdrawal times.
- Licence: the operator’s UK Gambling Commission account number, which you can check on the public register.
- What users say: the common likes and complaints from public reviews, written in our own words.
Where we can, we take these details from the bookmaker’s own help pages and terms, and we link to them.
How we make money
Horse Racing Betting Apps is free to use. Some links on the site are affiliate links: if you open an account through one, the bookmaker may pay us a commission. At the moment we have affiliate partnerships with William Hill and 888sport, and links to them are labelled as affiliate links.
- We only link to a bookmaker’s site when we have an affiliate partnership with them. Other bookmakers are reviewed without links.
- Commission never affects the ratings, because the ratings are the App Store and Google Play scores, not ours.
- Bookmakers can’t pay to change what we write about them.
Offers and terms
Welcome offers change often. When we show an offer, we show its key terms and the date we checked it, or point you to the full terms on the bookmaker’s site. Always read the full terms on the bookmaker’s site before signing up. You must be 18 or over to bet.
Safer gambling
Betting should be fun, not a way to make money. All UK-licensed betting apps must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and take part in GAMSTOP. See our responsible gambling page for help and support, or visit BeGambleAware.org.
