Haydock Park facts and history
A course with its own airstrip.
The track
Haydock is a left-handed, mostly flat oval of about 1m 5f. The run-in of 4½ furlongs rises slightly, and a chute gives a straight 6f course.
Over 7f and further, runners usually head for the far rail in the straight, often switching to the stands’ side on testing ground. Sprinters tend to race down the middle.

Newton-le-Willows is the nearest station, on the Manchester to Liverpool line. A shuttle bus runs to the course on every fixture except music nights (about £3 single or £5 return). Warrington Bank Quay and Wigan North Western are each about 8 miles away.
