Work out the returns on any horse racing bet: a single, an each-way bet, a Lucky 15, a Yankee or an accumulator. Pick the bet type, enter your stake and the odds for each horse, and set whether each one won, was placed, lost or was a non-runner. The calculator updates as you type.
How to use the betting calculator
- Choose the bet type. The calculator shows the right number of selections for it, for example four for a Lucky 15.
- Enter your stake per bet. This is the stake on each line, not the total. A £1 Lucky 15 costs £15.
- Tick each way if it’s an each-way bet. That doubles the number of bets and adds the each-way terms for each horse, such as 1/4 or 1/5 the odds.
- Enter the odds as fractions (5/2), decimals (3.5) or “evs”.
- Set each result: won, placed (each-way only), lost or non-runner. Non-runners are treated as void: in a single you get your stake back, and in a multiple that leg is ignored and the bet carries on with the other horses.
How many bets are in each bet type?
| Bet | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Trixie (3 selections) | 4 bets: 3 doubles and 1 treble |
| Patent (3 selections) | 7 bets: 3 singles, 3 doubles and 1 treble |
| Yankee (4 selections) | 11 bets: 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 four-fold |
| Lucky 15 (4 selections) | 15 bets: the Yankee plus 4 singles |
| Canadian (5 selections) | 26 bets: doubles up to a five-fold |
| Lucky 31 (5 selections) | 31 bets: the Canadian plus 5 singles |
| Heinz (6 selections) | 57 bets: doubles up to a six-fold |
| Lucky 63 (6 selections) | 63 bets: the Heinz plus 6 singles |
Each-way versions have twice as many bets, so a £1 each-way Lucky 15 costs £30. For how each bet works, see our bet types guide.
How each-way returns are worked out
An each-way bet is a win bet and a place bet. If your horse wins, both parts pay. If it’s placed, only the place part pays, at a fraction of the odds. For example, £5 each-way at 8/1 with 1/5 the odds: a win returns £58 (£45 from the win part and £13 from the place part), and a place returns £13. In each-way multiples, the win parts and the place parts are worked out as separate bets.
What the calculator doesn’t include
- Bookmaker bonuses, such as William Hill’s double-odds consolation and all-winners bonus on Lucky 15s.
- Best Odds Guaranteed: enter the starting price if it was bigger than the price you took and your bet qualified for BOG.
- Rule 4 deductions after a late non-runner, and dead heats, both of which reduce returns.
Your bookmaker’s settlement is always the final word. Our app guides explain how William Hill and 888sport settle racing bets.
