How to choose a horse racing betting app
The best horse racing betting app is the one that suits how you bet. Ratings tell you whether an app works well, but racing punters should also check five things before opening a betting account: Best Odds Guaranteed, live streaming, each-way terms, cash out and how quickly you can withdraw.
The best betting apps for one punter are not always right for another. A horse racing punter who backs at early prices needs different features from someone who only bets on major races a few times a year, so use the ratings and the feature notes together.
Does the app offer Best Odds Guaranteed?
Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) means that if you take a price and the starting price is bigger, you are paid at the bigger odds. Most big bookmakers offer it on UK and Irish racing, usually from 8am or 9am on race day. There are exceptions: SBK and 10bet don’t offer it, and Sky Bet limits it to Sky Bet Club members. If you regularly bet on horse racing at early prices, BOG is the single feature most likely to put money back in your pocket.
Can you watch the races in the app?
Most horse racing apps can live stream races from the UK and Ireland, but the rules differ. BoyleSports, Virgin Bet and 10bet stream racing to logged-in customers with a funded account and no bet needed, and Ladbrokes streams UK racing free to active customers. bet365, Paddy Power, Unibet and 888sport usually ask for a small bet (often £1) on the race you want to watch. Check the listing page for each app before you rely on a stream.
What are the each-way terms and extra places?
Each-way bets pay out if your horse finishes in the places, so the number of places paid matters. Several bookmakers, including Sky Bet, Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Virgin Bet and BoyleSports, pay extra places on selected races every day, especially big handicaps and major races such as the Grand National.
Is cash out and the bet slip easy to use?
Good racing apps let you build a bet slip quickly, add each-way with one tap and cash out part of a bet. Full and partial cash out is available on most bookmaker apps, while betting exchange apps let you trade out by backing and laying. In-play betting on horse racing is limited compared with football, so most racing bets are still placed before the off.
How fast are withdrawals?
Withdrawal speed is the most common complaint in user reviews. At the time of checking, Coral and Ladbrokes offered Fast Funds (usually within 4 hours) and instant Pay by Bank, bet365 quoted 1 to 4 hours for cards and PayPal, and BoyleSports quoted instant to 24 hours for Visa and PayPal. Bank transfers usually take 1 to 5 working days with any online bookmaker.
Bookmaker apps vs betting exchange apps
A bookmaker app sets its own horse racing odds on each betting market and you bet against the bookmaker. A betting exchange app matches you with other punters, so you can back a horse to win or lay it to lose, and the exchange takes commission on your winnings instead.
- Choose a bookmaker app if you want Best Odds Guaranteed, extra places, racing promotions and free bets.
- Choose an exchange app if you want bigger prices on fancied horses, the option to lay, or to trade before and during a race.
Commission ranges from 2% at Smarkets, Matchbook and Betdaq to 5% as standard at Betfair Exchange, which has the most racing liquidity. Spread bets on horse racing are a different product, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and are not covered in this directory.
Free bets and new customer offers
Most betting apps give new UK customers a free bet when they sign up, typically along the lines of “bet £10, get £30 in free bets”. Before you claim one, check:
- Minimum odds: the qualifying bet often has to be at odds of 1/2 or evens or bigger.
- Expiry: free bets expire after a set time, usually 7 days and sometimes 30, so plan to use them within that window.
- How free bets are paid: free bets are normally paid as tokens, and the stake is not returned with your winnings.
- Restrictions: some offers are paid as bet builders or accumulators rather than single racing bets.
Offers change often, so each app page shows the offer with the date we checked it. Ongoing racing promotions are often worth more than the sign-up offer. Examples at the time of checking include Paddy Power’s money back on selected races if your horse finishes second or third to the favourite, 10bet’s Second Time Lucky and BoyleSports doubling the odds on Lucky 15s with one winner. 18+. Are horse racing betting apps safe?
Yes, if the betting operator is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Every app in this directory holds a UK Gambling Commission licence, and each listing gives the licence holder and account number so you can check it on the Commission’s public register. Licensed apps must verify your age and identity and offer safer gambling tools such as deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion through GAMSTOP.
Horse racing app or betting site?
Most big bookmakers have betting apps available for both iPhone and Android, and a mobile app is usually quicker for live streaming and placing bets. Every bookmaker app here is a full sports betting app, so you can place sports bets on football and other sports from the same account. A few online bookmakers, including Betdaq, BetDukes and BetNeptune, are mobile betting sites only, with no app in the UK App Store or Google Play. They work in your phone’s browser like any online betting site, so we list their Trustpilot rating only.
How we rate the best horse racing betting apps
- Three independent ratings: App Store (iPhone), Google Play (Android) and Trustpilot, collected directly from each source, with the date checked.
- What users say: each app page summarises recent reviews in our own words, covering what people like and what they complain about.
- Racing features: Best Odds Guaranteed, live streaming, extra places, cash out, and payment and withdrawal times.
- UK licence: every operator listed is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, and each page links to its public register entry.
We may earn a commission from some bookmakers if you sign up through our links. This never affects the ratings, which come from independent sources.
Horse racing betting app FAQs
What is the best horse racing betting app in the UK?
It depends on what matters most to you. bet365, Betway and Sky Bet have the highest-rated apps, at 4.6–4.7 out of 5 on both iPhone and Android. Paddy Power combines a 4.7-rated iPhone app with the best Trustpilot score of the big bookmakers (3.8). For exchange betting, Matchbook scores well on all three ratings.
Why are betting app ratings so much higher than Trustpilot scores?
App Store and Google Play ratings judge the app itself: speed, design and ease of betting. Trustpilot reviews judge the company, so they include complaints about account checks, withdrawals, bonus terms and casino games. That’s why many bookmakers score 4.5+ for their app but under 2 on Trustpilot.
Which betting apps let you watch horse racing for free?
BoyleSports and Virgin Bet stream racing with a funded account and no bet needed, and Ladbrokes streams UK racing free to any active account. Betfred streams UK and US racing free if your account has a balance. Others, such as Paddy Power, Unibet and 888sport, need a small bet on the race.
Which bookmakers offer Best Odds Guaranteed?
Most big UK bookmakers offer Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish racing, including Betfred, bet365, Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, William Hill, BetVictor, Betway, Unibet, BoyleSports, 888sport and Virgin Bet. Sky Bet offers it to Sky Bet Club members. SBK and 10bet don’t offer it.
Which betting app has the best horse racing odds?
No single app always has the best horse racing odds. Bookmakers with Best Odds Guaranteed pay the starting price if it is bigger than the price you took, and betting exchange apps such as Betfair Exchange, Smarkets and Matchbook often have bigger prices on fancied horses, minus commission.
Can I bet on horse racing in-play on an app?
Yes, but in-play markets on horse racing are limited. Betting exchange apps are the main place to bet in-running, while most bookmaker apps close their markets when the race starts.
How often are these ratings updated?
We check every rating directly from the App Store, Google Play and Trustpilot. The figures on this page were checked on 21 October 2026, and each app’s page shows the date and links to the source.
